06/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The member of the European Parliament Enrique Baron has asked the committee on civil liberties of the EP to send a delegation of MEPs to Ceuta and Melilla as soon as possible, where a mass influx of illegal immigrants from Morocco over the last few days has ended in tragedy, with several people dead or injured (see EUROPE 9041). This is a problem which is an issue for the whole of Europe, the Spanish Socialist stresses in a press release, noting: "the pressure Ceuta and Melilla are under calls for a Community contribution, in order to guarantee safety and security in these two towns which are on the EU's external border with Africa". Other Spanish members of the Socialist group - Javier Moreno and Luis Yanez -have come out in support of this request by the former president of the European Parliament.
