Data protection supervisor favours proposed directive on holding data over proposed framework-decision by four Member States

Brussels, 26/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 26 September, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), Peter Hustinx, returned his opinion on the proposed directive presented by the European Commission on the holding of telecommunications data. Last Wednesday, the Commission presented this proposal, which is a rival to the framework decision tabled over a year ago by France, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden, and which was discussed at the most recent JHA Councils (see EUROPE 9032)....
