Brussels, 01/08/2005 (Agence Europe) - As part of the cooperation between the EU and China on the development and use of the future satellite radio-navigation network Galileo, the Galileo joint company has just signed three contracts with its Chinese opposite number, on: (1) applications for fishing issues; (2) commercial positioning services and related standardisation aspects; (3) the specific studies of the ionosphere, which will help to improve signal reception. These three contracts were signed in Beijing on 28 July by the executive director of the Galileo joint company, Rainer Grohe, and his counterpart Zang Guocheng, on the behalf of the National Remote Sensing Centre of China, in the presence of the Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, Professor Ma Songde. China will contribute 200 million to the Galileo project, out of a total cost of 3.5 billion EUR.
