01/08/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the European Commission indicated that certain Member States were attempting to block cargo loads of Chinese pullovers in transit and destined for the Community market, despite the pleas of many European retailers, who were worried that they would not be able to take delivery of pullovers for their winter collections which they have already paid for, and which are on the way to Europe. "Certain Member States have not accepted the necessary flexibility for cargoes of pullovers in transit", explained the spokesperson to Peter Mandelson, the Commissioner for Trade. Claude Veron-Reville pointed out, however, that the EU had reached an agreement with China for cargo sent up to 12 July to be accepted on to the Community market.
