In Beijing, José Manuel Barroso urges authorities to make progress on human rights to increase chances of having weapons embargo lifted

Brussels, 14/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, arrived in Beijing on Thursday morning for an official visit until 18 July. The Commission intends this visit to develop a strategic partnership between China and Europe. On Thursday, Mr Barroso was to meet the Chinese Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao, and will hold a meeting on Friday with the Chinese Head of State, Hu Jintao.
