Commissioners Kroes and McCreevy call on Banca Italia to ensure effective control of BBVA over BNL

Brussels, 14/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - In a letter sent to Antonio Fazio, the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Neelie Kroes and Charlie McCreevy welcome the decision of the Banca d' Italia not to make it an obligation for the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentari (BBVA) to acquire at least 50% of the shares of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL), a Commission spokesperson said on Thursday.
