16/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - A delegation from the EP's economic and monetary committee, headed by its chairman Pervenche Berès, held talks in London on 13 and 14 June with the forthcoming UK Presidency. The MEPs met the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the Rt Hon Des Browne, with whom they discussed the implementation of national programmes for the Lisbon Strategy, the action plan on financial services, lifting barriers to cross-border payments and the possibility of setting up a consolidated common tax base for business. The delegation also held meetings at the House of Lords and the House of Commons, and with the Bank of England and the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) recently set up in London, where they discussed the extension of the Lamfalussy procedure to banking regulations, amongst other things.
