GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/usa

16/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - As we previously announced (EUROPE 8969), the USA agreed on Wednesday to grant an extension to 26 October 2006 before the introduction of biometric passports from “visa waver countries scheme” which include the 15 older EU Member States, minus Greece and including Slovenia (EUROPE will come back to this). Commissioner Frattini warmly welcomed the decision, which in a press statement he described as excellent cooperation between the USA and EU which would allow measures to strengthen the daily security of citizens. Frattini also hopes that all EU Member States will soon take part in the visa waver scheme.
