13/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday the European Parliament approved the proposal enabling the EU to ratify the 199 agreement on the international programme for dolphin conservation by adopting the report of Duarte Freitas (EPP-ED, Portugal) and the protection of dolphins from tuna fishing. The Commission is expected to implement the procedures for accession to The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) and the agreement for protecting dolphins signed by the IATTC. An EP amendment aims to get the “without risk to dolphins” tuna labelling rule respected.
