29/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The results of trade during the fourth quarter 2004 show that the EU25 notched up a deficit of EUR 2.3 billion (0.6 billion during the fourth quarter 2003 and 10.6 billion during the third quarter 2004). During the fourth quarter 2004, services and revenue were in surplus compared to the third quarter, up EUR 10.6 billion and 9 billion respectively. For the whole of 2004, the preliminary results show a larger deficit in current EU25 trade compared to 2003 (EUR 21.8 billion, compared to 13.8 billion) due to the larger deficits for goods (26.9 billion compared to 9.1 billion) and in current transfers (41.7 billion compared to 38.2 billion) - a trend that the improved surpluses for services (41.1 billion compared to 37.2 billion) and the balance in revenue (surplus of 5.5 billion compared to deficit of 3.6 billion) did not offset.
