Spain must repay EUR 134 million in flax and hemp scandal

Brussels, 29/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the European Commission decided to require Spain to pay back EUR 134.5 mil because of fraud between 1996 and 2000 in the flax and hemp sectors (see EUROPE No. 8904) and to request the repayment of farm money received by other mss.

The most significant individual recoveries are: €113.40 million charged to Spain for major shortcomings in the control system and general fraud (100% correction, i.e. all money paid out will be recovered) in the...
