29/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - At a proposal by Vice-President Siim Kallas and in agreement with President José Manuel Barroso, the Commission decided on Thursday to appoint Lenia Samuel, who was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs in Cyprus, to the post of new Deputy Director-General for Employment and Social Affairs. Ms Samuel will be in charge of employment, social affairs and equal opportunities as well as European Social Fund operations.
