29/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Confédération européenne des détaillants en tabac (CEDT, tobacco retailers association) called on Tuesday for effective controls on tobacco transport to avoid contraband cigarettes, noting that the situation could only get worse with enlargement.. Contraband cigarettes are reported to have cost the EU some 1.0264 bn in 2003. The CDET says the UK is the biggest market for illegal cigarettes and tobacco products.
