10/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - European Commissioner Franco Frattini will, from 16 March, be responsible for all of the data protection dossier within the European Commission. Until now, this matter was shared between the Internal Market Commissioner for data protection in the first pillar (air transport, telecommunications, etc.) and the Commissioner for Freedom, Security and Justice under the third pillar (police, immigration). The latter will therefore take up the dossier as a whole. Mr Frattini reminded the European Parliament on Wednesday that his services were preparing a long-awaited proposal on data protection in the third pillar.
