Brussels, 10/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - In order to better reflect on priorities, Neelie Kroes announced on Thursday during an International Bar Association conference that the Commission's DG Competition services will have a new directorate entirely devoted to combating cartels. This restructuring will be a “concrete expression of zero tolerance policy” on the part of the Commission and “will group resources - both human and expertise in terms of procedures and inquiry - necessary for effective action against cartels”, she said. At this stage, no decision has yet been taken on either the date or the persons concerned, a spokesperson said, adding that: “Existing directorates that deal with specific sectors will continue to deal with other forms of abusive practices and concentrations”.
