04/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 1 March, the European Commission adopted technical marking and identification measures for beam trawlers and 'dormant' fishing units (longliners and gill nets that can be anchored, floated or marked). The regulation bans the use of dormant engines for fishing purposes, along with buoys and beam trawlers which are not clearly marked and identifiable. The regulation applies as of 1 October 2005. It was published in Official Journal L 56 of 2 March 2005.
