16/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Prime Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Vlado Buckovski, met EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana on Tuesday, the day after the questionnaire on his country's request for EU membership had been submitted (EUROPE 15 February). Their discussion was constructive with Solana congratulating Buckovski for the effort that his country has already made and encouraging him to continue along this road. The Macedonian prime minister gave his assurance that FYROM would be a “successful example” of a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society in the region, and restated his hope expressed the day before - that he would receive a “positive signal” from the EU for the opening of accession talks in 2006. Answering questions on Buckovski's ambition for his country to become an EU member nation in 2010 se bulletin mentioned above), Solana replied that it was “difficult” at this stage to set a date and stressed that the country should be “resolved” to pursue the economic and political reforms needed for membership.
