11/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Luxembourg Presidency, in a declaration on behalf of the EU, has expressed its concern for the “current political situation in Cambodia” (of which it is a “friend and partner”), particularly for the “increase in legal proceedings brought by politicians against each other” and the recent suspension of the immunity of three opposition members of parliament and the arrest of one of them. This situation does not seem “appropriate to the balanced functioning of the institutions, to respect for the rights of the democratic opposition, to national reconciliation and to the recovery of a country committed to establishing the rule of law”, and it calls on all political parties to work together “in the spirit of responsibility and cooperation, in the interest of all Cambodians”.
