31/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Heads of governments from eight countries, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia Montenegro are meeting on 2 February in Sofia to organise the “Decade of Roma Inclusion” (2005-15). The initiative is sponsored by the World Bank and the Open Society Institute, whose presidents James Wolfensohn and George Soros will be taking part in the Sofia meeting. Soros, according to a press release, has invited other countries, particularly members of the EU to support this decade initiative. Currently around 6 million Rom live in central and east Europe, almost 5 million living in EU Member States or candidate countries (Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria).
