EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT'S TRANSPORT COMMITTEE WANTS PEOPLE TO BE SENT TO PRISON FOR SERIOUS SEA POLLUTION

Brussels, 24/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's Transport Committee wants penal sanctions, including prison sentences, to apply to people found guilty of serious sea pollution. Adopting a recommendation by Dutch Christian-Democrat Corien Wortmann-Kool, the Committee amended the Council's common position on the draft directive on penalties for maritime pollution caused by ships.
