Brussels, 24/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Presenting the priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency on health matters to the MEPs, Mars di Bartolomeo returned to the promotion of “healthy lifestyles” and the serious problem for public health of obesity and weight issues. “I fully support the initiative of the European Commission, which intends to launch a European platform on nutrition, physical activity and health in Spring 2005”, said the Luxembourg minister for health, who plans to put the fight against obesity on the agenda of June's meeting of the Health Council.
The minister also pointed out that in April, the Presidency will hold a conference of “patient safety” in Luxembourg. In May, an “e-health” conference is to be held in Norway in collaboration with this country and the Commission. It will be followed in June by a conference on rare diseases to be held in Luxembourg with the support of the Commission and the French anti-myopathy association.
