24/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Graham Watson, the president of the ALDE group of the European Parliament, and members of the Bronislaw Geremek (Poland), Vittorio Prodi (Italy) and Jules Maaten (Netherlands) discussed ways of breathing new life into the Lisbon Strategy with a delegation of the Commission of the Bishops' Conference of the European Community (COMECE) last week, “for the economic and social good of Europe” and the “need to show solidarity” in the forthcoming financial perspectives, according to a press release. Furthermore, talks focused on the role of the Church in public life, “in respect of limits between the Church and State”, both delegations stressing the importance of dialogue to “maintain healthy relations and avoid excessive secularity”. Among members of the COMECE delegation were Mgr Josef Homeyer, Bishop of Hildesheim, and his Secretary General Noel Treanor.
