CONFERENCE ON PACT WITH ORGANISED CIVIL SOCIETY CONCERNING LISBON STRATEGY

Brussels, 24/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Luxembourg Economic and Social Council are to hold a conference in Luxembourg on 26 and 27 January on the theme “For a competitive, social and sustainable Europe- making the Lisbon Strategy a success through a pact with organised civil society” (see EUROPE of 4 December 2004, p.15). This conference will hear from the current European President, Jean-Claude Juncker, and from the president of the high-level group on the Lisbon Strategy, Wim Kok (who will present his report “Meeting the challenge- the Lisbon Strategy for growth and employment”: see EUROPE of 28 October, p.10). The conference aims to make recommendations to the European institutions, and more specifically the spring European Council, to breathe new life into the Lisbon Strategy. The conference will end with the adoption of a resolution including a message to be sent to the spring summit on the mid-term review of the Strategy. (Info: http://www.esc.eu.int ).
