Three times as many counterfeit euro coins removed from circulation in 2004

Brussels, 18/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - According to information published by the Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) on Tuesday, there were almost three times as many counterfeit euro coins in 2004. More than 74,000 counterfeit euro coins were removed from circulation by National Central Banks (64,603 two euro coins, 9,103 coins of one euro, and 858 fifty centime coins), compared to 26,191 in 2003 and 2,339 in 2002.
