17/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 12 January the European Commission adopted a regulation for improving inspections of the cold food chain during transport and stocking of frozen products. These rules were published in Official Journal L 10 on 13 January 2005 and include harmonisation of temperature inspection tools by 1 January 2006 at the latest, including rail transport, which until now has been exempt. Transport and warehouses of frozen foods, with the exception of those for wholesale and local distribution, will have to be equipped with air temperature measuring tools that facilitate "frequent and regular" inspections.
