Brussels, 13/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the European Commission is expected to adopt a report that draws up a balance sheet for efforts made by EU Member States in 2003 to obtain greater balance in fishing capability and fish catch volume from existing resources. This is the first report to evaluate EU fleet capacity following the EU decisions of December 2002 on reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the abandonment of the former mullet-annual orientation programme (Pop IV). The last report adopted in August 2003 concluded that only Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden had reached their objective in 2002 in all segments of their fleets and that all Member States, excluding the Netherlands and Belgium, had respected their overall objectives in terms of tonnage.
