Brussels, 10/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised an operation that will bring together two worldwide building material companies specialised in cement, granulates and ready-to-use cement. Cemex, which is based in Mexico and which mainly operates on the American continent, as well as in Asia, Egypt and Spain, may therefore buy up the British group, RMC, which has production units in twenty-two countries throughout the world. Despite overlapping of activities on the concrete, mortar and granulates market in several Spanish regions, and vertical integration of Cemex on that of cement production, the Commission investigation concluded that competition will not be hampered to any significant extent. The Commission reaches the same conclusion for the concrete and granulates market in a limited number of French regions.
