02/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, Alexander Radwan, CSU MEP, has described the letter of formal notice sent to Greece by the European Commission about the incorrect figures used to calculate its budgetary deficit as a "toothless tiger". Greece has nothing to fear by way of sanctions, the MEP states, adding that without sanctions, the "euro is a house built on sand". He argues that this is not at all the correct signal to send out to those of the new Member States wishing to join the euro, and the Commission must now make concrete proposals regarding possible sanctions to be imposed on countries failing to respect the criteria of the Stability Pact. "Lastly, we need concrete and effective disincentive measures", he said.
