Court of auditors condemn shortcomings in system for European identification of bovine animals

Brussels, 18/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a special report adopted on Tuesday, the Court of Auditors has criticised the European system for identifying an registering bovine animals. The audit demonstrated that the database, which was due to be set up two years after the 31 December 1999 deadline, in four of the Member States (Germany, France, Italy and United Kingdom) does not allow for an exact tracing of all bovine animal movements (from birth to slaughter).
