People transporting over 10,000 EUR will have to declare it at borders of EU - Italy votes against Council common position

Brussels, 17/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Ecofin Council reached political agreement on the proposed regulation on the control of movements of cash at the external borders of the Union. The objective is to fight money laundering more effectively, particular the financing of terrorism.

Discussions focused principally on the sum of the minimum amount beyond which individuals will have to declare movements of cash when they enter or leave the Union. Sensibilities varied among the...
