Brussels, 08/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - "Street children" are a growing social phenomenon throughout the world. These children live in extremely difficult conditions, and are deprived of the fundamental rights enshrined in the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child. In order to resolve the problem, the European Network on Street Children Worldwide (ENSCW) was relaunched in Brussels on 14 October. The President of the Network, Maartje van Putten, MEPs Luisa Morgantini and Armin Laschet, and Armindo Silva for the European Commission, all took the opportunity to highlight the importance of this "solidarity network" to promote children's rights, and to help them to integrate into society. Luisa Morgantini appealed for a special Year of the Child (Info: http://www.enscw.org ).
