Photos and fingerprints for European passports

Brussels, 15/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - European passports may in future contain two biometric methods of identification: photos and fingerprints. "A large majority is now in favour of this solution", that the Presidency will propose to the JHA Council on 25 and 26 October, diplomats say. Hitherto, the Council was more in favour of the Commission's proposal: a photo in all passports, and fingerprints according to the wishes of each State.
