11/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - Estonian Socialist Marianne Mikko, Chair of the EP/Moldova Delegation, calls in a declaration on the EU to envisage "more active EU involvement in the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict as part of the European Neighbourhood Policy". Ms Mikko also calls on Transnistrian authorities to put an end to the "intimidation, harassment and legal persecution" against those parents who are standing up for their civic rights and those of their children. In particular, she regrets that the Lucian Blaga High School in Tiraspol, where more than 500 students are enrolled, is not able to resume its work in the building that was devastated by the Transnistrian militia in July. The Estonian Parliament, however, welcomes the fact that classes have been resumed in Evrica High School of Ribnita, which she hopes is a step "which allows for the functioning of the Moldovan schools using the Latin script in Transnistria".
