GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/jordan/neighbours

08/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) have, before the EU/Jordan Association Council to be held next Monday in Luxembourg, addressed a letter to the Foreign Ministers of the EU, to Javier Solana and to Chris Patten calling on them to integrate a strong chapter on human rights into the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy, "with clearly measurable objectives and benchmarks". Also, the two organisations say, it would be necessary to create within the association agreement a committee on human rights whose work would be subject to regular consultation with the civil society.
