Brussels, 08/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - Thursday's Transport Council adopted a decision authorising the European Commission to open negotiations with Ukraine with a view to its cooperation in the European satellite radionavigation system, Galileo. The agreement will be of the same kind as that with China and Israel. The scenario for cooperation includes multilateral and industrial cooperation, and research and scientific activities especially on standardisation issues. The Commission has presented to the Council the latest developments concerning Galileo and above all the communication that it adopted by written procedure on Wednesday, in which it calls on the Council to take the necessary political decisions to pursue development of the European system and move onto the two following phases of Galileo: the deployment and operational phases of the system (EUROPE of 5 October).
