Monaco becomes 46th Member State

Strasbourg, 05/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg on Tuesday, Monaco officially became the 46th Member State of the pan-European organisation with its seat in the Alsatian city. "Welcoming the Principality of Monaco to the Council of Europe is for me, as for all of my compatriots, a subject of great satisfaction and pride", said Prince Albert, reading out a message from his father Rainier of Monaco. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis, welcomed Monaco's arrival, as it will now "take part in and contribute to the future of Europe".
