23/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - At the Liberal Democrats' conference on 20 September in Bournemouth, Andrew Duff MEP criticised his country's government for its superlative weakness in preparing for a referendum on the European Constitution. The former Member of the Convention said that the government was confused on how it should campaign for a "yes" vote. He was no less sparing with his criticism of the Tories, accusing their leader Michael Howard of favouring a kind of Europe "à la carte" or "Europe kit". Mr Duff said that no bid centre-right political party in Europe was against the constitution. Duff announced that the Liberal Democrats were "the United Kingdom's European party" and would be active in this campaign with their networks in civil society and their "troops in the road".
