Brussels, 22/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Dutch Presidency hopes to reach agreement on the "machines" directive, at the end of a public debate at Friday morning's Competitiveness Council. "We think there is a large qualified majority" to adopt the text, indicated a Dutch diplomat on Tuesday.
The directive aims to simplify and bring up to date two existing directives setting security and standardisation rules for machines and lifts. It also aims to speed up standardisation procedures.
