07/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - Representatives from the Council of Europe, the European Commission, UNMIK (United Nations Mission in Kosovo) will launch "the International Independent Committee for Cultural Heritage in Kosovo" on 10 September, proposed by the outgoing Secretary General for the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer (following the inter-ethnic violence last March in the region. High level experts will propose strategies for preserving and evaluating Kosovan cultural heritage in the "Action Plan for Kosovo" produced by the Council of Europe and the European Commission as part of the "Regional Programme for the Cultural and Natural Heritage in South Eastern Europe". Discussions will also focus on progress made by the "Pilot Committee for the Reconstruction of Religious Sites" set up on 17 August to repair 35 Serbian Orthodox sites damaged or destroyed last March.
