Brussels, 07/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - A delegation of three judges from the European Court of Human Rights is visiting Turkey from 6 to 11 September to investigate the complaint tabled by 50 detainees in Turkish prisons. These prisoners allege that their state of health, as a result of their long hunger strike in 2001, makes their continued detention counter to the European Convention on Human Rights, articles 2 (right to life) and 3 (ban on inhumane or degrading punishments or treatment). The judges are visiting the Tekirdag, Kocaeli and Istanbul prisons. The plaintiffs will be medically examined on 8 and 11 September.
