Brussels, 05/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - More than 150 million electors are going to the polls on Monday to elect their president and vice president for five years. These presidential elections are the first to take place under universal suffrage in this country of 212 million Former general and security minister, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is seen to be leading in the opinion polls over other candidates, including current president Megawati Sukaroputri. The EU electoral mission is monitoring the election and is headed by British MEP Glyn Ford. The second round is planned for 20 September if no candidate is able to obtain an absolute majority in the first round.
