Brussels, 29/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Around three dozen young people (aged from 16 to 20) from battle zones will meet at a German holiday park Europa-Park, in the Rust/Freiburg region on 1-6 July to discuss the divisions between their countries and their communities. The meeting is being organised under the aegis of the Council of Europe and chaired by Council of Europe Secretary General, Walter Schwimmer, as one of a series of activities launched in 2003 to seek alternative ways of resolving conflicts in the world from young people. The debates will enable young Palestinians and Israelis, for example, or young Albanians and Serbs from Kosovo, to calmly discuss the wars between their communities. After the debates, it is hoped the young participants will realise how prejudice and stereotypes can be combatted and become aware of genuine social and cultural differences so that dialogue may emerge.
