Brussels, 29/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold its last session before the summer recess on 30 June and 1 July in Brussels, under the chairmanship of Roger Briesch. On this occasion, no external speakers are expected.
During this session, the EESC will take position on several own-initiative opinions on the following: 1) nuclear fusion: the rapporteur us the emeritus Director of the Institute for Plasma Physics and project leader for nuclear fusion at the Jülich research centre in Germany, Gerd Wolf; 2) Turkey: the opinion will be presented by the Dutch unionist Tomas Etty; 3) metropolitan areas: socio-economic implications for the future of Europe: the rapporteur is the former president of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce Joost van Iersel; 4) 2nd pillar of the CAP- prospects for the adaptation of the development policy for rural territories- follow-up to the Salzburg conference: the rapporteur is the vice-president of the standing assembly of French chambers of agriculture, Gilbert Bros; 5) the international convention of migrants: the opinion will be presented by the Spanish unionist Luis Miguel Pariza Castanos.
Among the other opinions on the agenda will be: 1) the 3rd cohesion report (Paulo Barros Vale, employers' group, Portugal); 2) the revision of the 93/104directiuve on various aspects of working time management (Erik Harh, employers' group, Sweden); 4) the future of the textile and clothing sector (Antonello Pezzini, employers' group, Italy), and Michel Nollet, employees' group, Belgium); 5) Social protection: making work pay (Donna St Hill, employers' group, UK).
