Lower turnout and arrival of large group of opponents to European construction paves way to uncertain parliament

Brussels, 14/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The results came out Sunday evening: a high abstention rate in countries that have just joined the European Union which was accentuated by a fall in participation (which has not stopped since the first election of MEPs elected by universal suffrage in 1979). Less than one in two Europeans (45,5%) a felt the need to express themselves on issues such as Europe and those that did, often misunderstood or said no to Europe, as borne out by the score for UKIP...
