Commission go-ahead to construction of new Finnish nuclear power plant (first in EU for over a decade)

Brussels, 14/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Acting in accordance with the provisions of the Euratom Treaty, the European Commission gave its clearance on Friday to the establishment of a new nuclear power plant in Finland and has communicated this opinion to the Finnish authorities. The nuclear power plant is the first to be ordered in the European Union for over a decade. Construction will start in 2005 and it will start operating in 2009.
