ICES requests fishing reduction for deep sea species

Brussels, 14/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Last Friday the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) published scientific opinions that were not very optimistic with regard to future stocks of so-called deep sea fish stocks in the North East Atlantic. The ICES recommended a considerable decrease in fishing for orange roughy and a 30% reduction for ling and torsk. It also considers that blue ling fishing should be suspended in order to let stocks recover.
