Brussels, 10/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana received a telephone call on Wednesday from the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, indicated Cristina Gallach, spokesperson for the High Representative for CFSP in a press statement. She said that the conversation focused on the Israeli Gaza withdrawal plan (the Israeli government approved the plan on Sunday, deciding that it would only be applied from March 2005 onwards). According tot the spokesperson, Javier Solana reiterated the European Union's support for the evacuation "from all Gaza settlements and parts of the West Bank, in accordance with the latest statement of the Quartet for peace in the Middle East" on 4 May in New York.
A press statement for Mr Sharon's services, quoted by AFP, indicated that Mr Solana had asserted that the EU supported the withdrawal plan and was ready to assist with its application.
