Brussels, 10/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to estimations made on Thursday by the European Compound Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC), the production of compound feed for animals stood at 124.9 million tonnes in 2003 in the EU of Fifteen, which represents a fall of 2.5 million compared to 2002, after several years of stagnation. The ten new Member States produced a total of 16.8 million tonnes in 2003. FEFAC states that in the EU of Fifteen, the production of compound feed for poultry fell by 4%. The drop in production of pig feed was 3%. Feed production for cattle, however, rose 1%.
Forecasts for 2004 are not very encouraging: FEFAC predicts a drop of 1% in production of compound feed in the EU of 25, with drops of 2% for pig feed and 3% for cattle feed. FEFAC expects an increase of 1% to 2% in production of poultry feed in 2004.
