10/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Greens at the European Parliament are not entirely satisfied with the action plan presented on Wednesday by the European Commission to reduce the number of environmentally linked diseases over the period 2004-10 (EUROPE yesterday p 14). The co-president of the Greens/EFA group, Monica Frassoni, gave an angry response in a press statement that that it was a "non-action plan, which did not take into account the concrete demands of the European Parliament on preventive measures. The Italian Green elected in Belgium complained of the "absence of legislative measures and said that the plan displayed "ignorance about the fact that children's health is disproportionately affected by environmental factors…and make it inappropriate for a Ministerial WHO meeting specifically dealing with the future of our children".
