06/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Council gave its clearance to the definitive conclusion of the cooperation agreement between the European Community and the European Space Agency. The agreement aims to allow the two Institutions to develop the "harmonious and progressive definition of a global European space policy". It allows the European Community to take part in the optional ESA programmes, by making a financial contribution. It provides for the ESA to be able to manage the European Community's activities in relation to space in compliance with Community rules. A "Space Council" is to meet at regular intervals between the EU Council and the ESA Council. The text of the framework agreement was signed last November (EUROPE of 26 November).
